Hieroglyphic Mountains - Tour

Updated: Feb 18

The Hieroglyphic Mountains are located in central Arizona and straddle the border of Maricopa and Yavapai Counties. The primary access route will be through Boulders OHV staging area. Boulders OHV Staging area has a vault restroom and information kiosk. There is no drinking water, dumping stations, picnic tables or shade structures. The area offers 200 miles of backcountry roads ranging from 1700 - 3500 feet in elevation.

On a scale of 1 to Seguro, this trail rates as a Moderate. Yeah the scale needs some work. This is a very good introduction to Offroading. The majority of the trail will be travelling through washes and steep hill climbs. There is 1 waterfall, which is not very difficult and offers an introduction to rock climbing. On this trail we will travel to the far side of the mountains, which is the highest mountain, that we can drive up. The elevation will be 3500 feet. From atop this mountain, we will have a beautiful view of Lake Pleasant. Although we are a short drive away from Peoria, the distant views will make you feel as if you are away from civilization. The Ocotillo plant can be viewed, throughout this trail. I bring this specific plant up, because they will be constantly trying to make their way into the vehicle. Please keep windows closed and hands inside the vehicle, to prevent injury to yourself or other passengers.

This is nice introduction trail that offers scenic views of the Lake Pleasant area. I would recommend this tour for anyone new to off-roading. Thank you for stopping by and I will see you on the trail!
