A Land before Ram

Seguro Files 001

Welcome all, my name is Alex and I am the person behind Seguro and Seguro Offroad. Before we get into all the adventures and exploration, I would like to tell you how I ended up with a heavy duty truck as my offroad platform.

I grew up in Arizona, the youngest of 4 children. Most of my childhood was spent traveling in and out of hospitals, staying at my grandmas, cousins and relatives. My big little sis, second sister but not the oldest sister, has had epilepsy since the age of 4. The epilepsy started after mercury dental fillings were put in. My sister was having over a hundred seizures day, which is why my childhood was mostly hospital waiting rooms. As you can surmise, I never really explored Arizona's desert.

In 2008 I decided to join the U.S Army. This would be my catalyst to exploration. Throughout my military career I got to meet all kinds of folks, from different backgrounds, cultures and upbringings. In my journey I was able to travel the country and explore other countries. I began to try new foods, learn new culture norms and become more adventurous. I used to watch videos of white water rafting and think those guys are crazy! Then I found myself rafting down the Arkansas river in Class 4 rapids!

When I returned to Arizona, I was never satisfied with siting still. My adventures continued such with ziplining, Lava tube and cave exploration. 2018 is when I really starting scratching my Dora the explorer bug. I had begun to hike the Arizona desert. I was doing your typical phoenix hikes, some unmarked remote desert hikes and even participating in events like Phoenix Summit challenge.

As with most hobbies, I eventually found myself trying to cover more ground in less time. Mountain biking was the next logical step. My first bike being a 3x7 hard tail, which I ended upgrading to a 1x10 with lighter wheels, drop seat and hydraulic brakes. As I began to cover more ground and adventure further and further from the city, I began to reach the limits that my commuter car could take me.

This was when I began to think about adding a secondary vehicle that could get me to more remote areas, for trails that I could not reach. I was originally dead set on getting a Jeep. I had sat in a jeep but did not feel comfortable in the driver and passenger seats. Jeeps are not very spacious and overall uncomfortable to sit in. I started to think about what else I may use this vehicle for. Considering payload capacity, tow rating and bed space. I happened to be getting my car serviced when I wondered over to the RAM parking lot. I ended up sitting in a 2019 Ram Rebel. This had a higher tow rating, payload capacity and a bed, which a jeep would not fulfill. Let me tell ya that truck felt great to sit in! The interior is one that I have yet to find another vehicle match. With the increased payload, towing capacity and air suspension, I was falling for the truck. However, at this time I am still on the fence if a truck is what I really want and would keep long term. I decided to lease the vehicle, to give me an option out if I decide the truck is not for me. . .

As you can guess, the capability of 4 wheel drive vehicle enhanced my exploration. This new range, my adventures extended further out and into more difficult terrain. I had the Rebel, less than a month, when I was exploring Four Peaks mountain, Sedona, and many other areas. Areas I had not seen a full size truck adventure through. I knew myself and I knew I could not keep leasing this truck. I was becoming more risky with the truck. I might as well eat the cost now, to break the lease, or pay more at the end of the lease. Before the first payment was due, I found myself back at the dealership looking to break the lease. That is where we meet Seguro for the first time. . . Stay tuned.
